Interview – Patrick Brown4
Posted In Blog, Interviews
We’ve interviewed Patrick Brown, a young Australian graphic designer & artist. He has a very distinct and visually unique style. He is mostly known for all his fan art ranging from video games (featured in GamesMaster Magazine UK November, 10, 2009 Issue), tv shows to movies. I’ve been a fan of his work for quite some time so I was quite honored to be able to get some insight on him and some of his processes.
Tell me a little bit about you, your art, where you’re from and how you got into designing.
I’m originally from a city called Burnie in Tasmania/Australia. I’ve been drawing my entire life, but I only descovered digital art when i started college. It was around the time when Grand Theft Auto San Andreas came out (2005 I think) and I was crazy about that game and greatly inspired by the cover art and style! I began drawing my own friends in the GTA: SA style and doing it all in Photoshop and learning how to create digital art. I’ve been doing digital art ever since and have learnt so much about it, IT’S MY LIFE
You have a very unique style, soon as I see it, I know it’s a Patrick Brown piece. How would you describe your style and where do you get inspiration from?
I’m not really sure what you could call my style, maybe modern/cartoon/edge. My inpiration has came alot from a famous artist named Humberto Ramos, I love his style and it rubs off on my art I think.
Tell me a bit about your work process, what’s your general work flow like? Do you research and search for inspiration or do you just go for it?
Usually I like to browse through DeviantART and look for great art, i find it gives me motivation and gets me in the mood, then I just go for it!
What’s the best part of being a designer?
I think the best part is doing personal projects! I get excited knowing how much freedom I have with what I choose to do.
Would you say being an artist influences your perspectives, do you see the real world differently?
Absolutely! I look at the world in a different way I think, I notice things other’s wouldn’t, I get motivated by certain things or even get great ideas from what I see.
What about your software and tools of the trade, what do you use to make those amazing pieces?
I have always used Photoshop for all my art, but my Wacom Graphics Tablet is my best friend, I really couldn’t do any of this without it!
What are your upcoming projects?
I’m not really sure just yet, but I’m considering doing another Avatar piece or something from an upcoming game!
On a final note, any tips you’d like to share with budding artists and otherwise?
A great tip I can give is too always focus on your original sketch! It’s what structures the whole picture and makes it it’s best! And practice hard

Thanks. My personal fave is the joker, it’s just all sorts of awesome.
He is truly amazing. MY GOODNESS.
I am seriously blown out of my seat.
The amount of detail and work is just out of this world. I would love to have a huge poster of the scarface piece, add it to my collection of Tony Montana items.
